We are barely six months into a new administration and my head is spinning. Between President Bush's bailouts and now President Obama's stimulus, health care reform, cap and trade and possibly another stimulus I am beginning to wonder which way is up. What is our federal government doing to this country? It seems to me that the problems of our country could be solved with the use of common sense and by following the advice of our forefathers.
My thoughts on the bailout and stimulus-
Since when did companies become too big to fail?
Common sense would tell me that if a private company runs itself in the ground then that is that particular company's problem and not the concern of the taxpayers.
If my neighbor, buys a house that he either cannot afford because he doesn't make enough money or is too irresponsible too make his payments then why should I be responsible for helping him?
Common sense tells me that if I am in debt and not able to pay my debts that I should reduce my spending instead of borrowing more money and spending it.
My thoughts on government run health care-
I agree something needs to be done about the cost of health care but government has no business in the health care business. I have several questions in regards to this....
How much is this going to cost?
How is it going to be paid for?
If I receive health care benefits from a private insurer am I going to have to pay for the government program of those that don't?
Are government subsidies going to put private insurers out of business so that we are all forced to sign up for the government program?
And add to this Sen. Max Baucus (D-Montana) believes that we should pay taxes on the health care benefits provided by our employers (unless of course you belong to a union then you will be exempt from this tax). And also President Obama who criticized Sen. John McCain during the campain for suggesting that same thing may go along with this.
A question for Sen. Baucus... If my employer provided health care benefits are taxed does that mean that the health care benefits of those under the government sponsored plan are going to be taxed too? Seems fair to me.
I'm not going even going to go into Cap and Trade or God forbid another stimulus right now.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. – Benjamin Franklin
